Now this has the right stuff! The depth of field is just right, hard vibrant details are front and center, soft muddy stuff in back. Yes, it does feel like Feng Zhu but how much of what we neo-noobs of this young culture love our great Gnomon predecessors or earlier heroes? Either alot or we're just straight out liars...such is visual art that it has a poetic term called appropriation. This has such a level of balance, detail and feeling of movement I gotta say, truly exceptional, you've made leaps/bounds from your progress from a year ago.
thanks! who doesn't take inspiration from him? plus he has the best tutorials on the web. But I did not take any specific inspiration from any of his pieces. actually did not use any reference while painting this, although i probably should have, but if i did it would have been from actual photographs of cityscapes. I Don't ever use other people's concept art as reference
I think the comb-like brush you used, and the detailed lit cityscape reminded me of some of his work. But it's true, everybody stumbles upon his tutorials sooner or later. I'm just a beginner, but usually i try to revisit his videos once every couple of months and try to see if i understand more of what he's doing than last time .
Either way, i think everybody who takes a 10 second look at your work knows you wouldn't have the need to copy somebody else's, so it wasn't my intention to imply that. Great work, keep'em coming .
I did make that brush to have a similar effect as one he has, its nothing fancy though, just a hard flat brush. thanks a bunch for the kind words, and the comments! also i dont think you implied it, I was probably just giving a much to lengthy answer as I tend to do I do the same with his videos, they are a gold mine
Indeed, he doesn't teach the fundamentals obviously, since that is what his school is for. But after learning some of them from other sources it's all starting to make much more sense to me. I'm rather stuck with the first videos though, since more advanced techniques are a bit too early for me <- me look like this
